Road 5Ks to major marathons. Filter, sort and register.

Discipline Guide

Road running is the backbone of endurance sport, from charity 5Ks and neighborhood 10Ks to half marathons and the classic 26.2-mile marathon. The Kinetic Chronicle lists the full spread of road events, including flat, fast 5Ks built for personal bests, half marathons that double as tune-up races, world-major marathons with lottery entry and small-town races that welcome the whole field. Typical distances span 5K (3.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles), 10 miles, half marathon (13.1 miles) and the full marathon (26.2 miles), run mostly on paved roads, closed parkways and city streets. Notable events in the directory include major-city marathons, age-graded half marathon series, championship 10Ks and beginner-friendly 5K fun runs. Filter by state, date or distance to find your next road race and register directly with the organizer.

How long is a marathon?

A marathon is 26.2 miles (42.195 km). A half marathon is 13.1 miles (21.1 km). Most road races also offer 5K (3.1 miles) and 10K (6.2 miles) distances, and many add a 10-mile or half-marathon option alongside the full.

What is a Boston Qualifier?

A Boston Qualifier is a certified marathon course where finishing under a time standard set by the Boston Athletic Association can earn entry into the Boston Marathon. Not every marathon is certified, so check the race listing for 'BQ-eligible' or USATF certification before targeting a qualifying time.

Do I need to be fast to enter a road race?

No. The vast majority of road races welcome all paces, from sub-elite fields to walkers and first-timers. Most events set a generous course cutoff (often 6-7 hours for a marathon) and many offer a 5K or 10K so newer runners can race a shorter distance.
